THERE ARE 4.1 MILLION PEOPLE LIVING IN DEBT SLAVERY IN PAKISTAN.
“The Lord sets the prisoners free; the Lord opens the eyes of the blind”
FREED is built around a simple goal: to rescue as many people from slavery as we can, ensuring they remain free afterwards
OUR PROJECTS
-
Freeing indebted workers
Christians face severe discrimination and a lack of opportunities. Many resort to borrowing money from a brick factory owner which indebts them usually for life and the interest is so high on this debts that their children’s children end up carrying the debt even after the original borrower has died. Our team settles the debts with the factory owners allowing for the workers to be released. They are immediately removed from their living quarters in the factory and moved into a rental home that is given to them to start a new life.
-

Education
We found that all the families we rescued had an urgent need for education for their children, so with the help of our Pakistani team, we opened a school that provides education in a safe environment for the rescued children, where a professional teacher helps them in whatever stage they find themselves.
-
Clean water
Pakistan is suffering a severe water crisis, with few people in remote communities or within brick factories having access to clean drinking water. One of our projects is building public water amenities that anyone in the neighbourhood can access daily for free, safe drinking water. Our facilities are solar-powered, so there is no energy burden on the community to fund the pumps and filters and we aim to expand to as many regions as we can.
-

Skills training
We run a sewing class for rescued women that is taught by a former slave who received professional training after her rescue. The Mariam Stitching Centre allows women to learn a highly valuable skill to provide for their families in a safe environment and the women receive training, materials and sewing machines to begin their training.
-

Microbusiness support
The people that we support have no education or training in any skill other than in brickmaking. We gift to them a rickshaw that they can easily drive as a taxi. This model of business has proven to be succesful in generating a consistent and suficient income for recently freed families to begin a life with financial independence.
-

Medical support
Most of the families that we rescue have some kind of health issue. We try to provide medical care upon their release from the brick factories by funding their treatments, operations and medications at the local hospital. We have succesfuly helped children with cleft palate, patients with hepatitis, diabetes, tumors, burns and multiple births.
